Pretty Toddler Ballet Buns

All the little girls at my daughter's most recent holiday Nutcracker ballet performance were using (or rather, their mom's were using) these bun donuts to make the most beautiful, shiny, full buns, even on fine or short toddler hair.

the tool looks like this, which you can purchase from amazon or most beauty supply stores: (you can also make your own by cutting out the toe area from a sock and rolling it to form the donut.)

So here is how to make the perfect ballet bun, using the bun form above:

Festive Holiday Hair for girls

This post featured on babble shows how to do 12 easy and fancy holiday hairstyles for little girls.

Consider the following a holiday hair guide for the rest of us. The rest of us with so-so braiding skills, very little patience, or hard to style hair. There’s no reason our little girls shouldn’t be able to have fancy hair for the holidays. Rather than relying on long hair (something we don’t have) we rely on easy styles with simple embellishments anyone with desire and a hot glue gun can make and tailor to their own needs.

Using a few things at the store to put together some fun holiday embellishments, we could have gone crazy with holiday peacocks, Santa hats and tiny little wrapped presents sticking out of ponytails, but we decided to keep it simple. Head to the holiday section of any craft store and see what inspires you. Here is what was purchased for these hairdos:
  • 3 plastic headbands -$3
  • Bag of little satin roses – $3.50
  • Thin red, gold and green ribbon – $1 each
  • Thick red satin ribbon – $2
  • 4 candy cane shaped ornaments – $2
  • Glittery snowflake ornament (with 3 snowflakes) – $1.50
  • What we already had – Hair ties, bobby pins, plastic sewing needletail comb, spray bottle and a hot glue gun.

Kids Holidaywear at Neiman Marcus for Target

In just a few days, Neiman Marcus and Target will present Holiday24, an exclusive collection of 50 gorgeous gifts from 25 top designers. Starting December 1 for a limited time. The dresses below are by Designers Marchesa (Dark Pink Floral and off-white beaded dresses), and Jason Wu (solid and print dresses). Get a sneak peak at the collection on Target's website.

I love these holiday hairstyles to pair with the gorgeous dresses above. These hairstyles work well for holiday parties, Christmas and Hanukkah. Twisting back the sides and securing them with a bobby-pin in the back makes an elegant look with some loose ringlets on long or short little girls' hair. Perfect for all of your holiday celebrations! Older girls (around 6 years old) can do this style themselves.

Girly Pink Gingerbread Houses

I first saw the idea of pink gingerbread houses in the American Girl doll Holiday 2012 catalog. I love non-traditional colors for Christmas to change things up a little, especially when you are decorating your daughter's room for the holidays, or like my little girl, who has a mini silver Christmas tree that we decorate in pastel pink, blue and purple, with silver and white accents.

Crewcuts Girls Holiday Style

A great source of inspiration for holiday fashion can be found in J Crew's kids line, crewcuts, which has everything you need for little girls Christmas gifts, Christmas dresses, and festive winter clothing. The holiday 2012 crewcuts looks include sequins, glitter, flowers and tons of darling embellishments that I have found to last through many washings. I also love their ideas for holiday and winter photo shoots for little ones.
